Is a lotus birth a good idea?

I think it's stupid. Animals chew off the cord. Leaving it on increases the risk of infection. There is no reason to cut it off moments after birth, but after 5-10 minutes after delivery there is no advantage for keeping it connected to your child. It's done its job. The placenta no longer operates.
